ABOUT SPEC

We are excited to host the this relatively new series
to Philadelphia, and we hope that you can ascend to the cocktail class
with us. And no, this is not an actual class -- it's a
society for those who can (or who want to) appreciate fine
spirits & stylish living.
SPEC's Mission....
To evoke the golden age of American elegance as
expressed through the art of extraordinary cocktails, to promote
the appreciation of vintage glassware, and to create an
atmosphere of joie de vivre.
Brief story of how SPEC started....
On
a chilly night in October while exploring Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, three bright young things found their way, with
the help of insider tips from their friends, into a bar called
Kelly's.
Their
auspicious discovery of the venue's chic interior – and its
notable lack of Appletinis and Red Bull Cosmopolitans on the
menu – coincided with their recent obsession with the television
show Mad Men,
a program that faithfully recreates the look & feel of
Manhattan circa 1960, and their study of the amazing cocktail
book,
Meet Me in The Bar.
While
waxing nostalgic for an era they had missed by a tragic mistake
of fate and birth, and while sipping their sugar-rimmed
sidecars, the trio longed to revisit this particularly elegant
moment in history, and, in a burst of whiskey-infused
inspiration, they figured out how it just might be possible.
And so SPEC was born.
Join
us in celebrating a bygone era in which sipping a well-made
martini was, for the cocktail class, simply de rigueur.
Update: This past year one of
our former hosts, Mlle. Enelow, has moved to New York City; our
newest co-host, Ms. Niamh O'Connell, is our designer and
official SPEC photographer.
